Build Back Better Battle: We spoke this week with Congressman John Moolenaar (R) and Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence (D) about the Build Back Better bill. President Joe Biden very much wanted to get the deal done before leaving for Europe but that obviously did not happen. Brenda Lawrence says this bill will get passed and she is proud to be a part of what will be the biggest Governmental social safety net since the New Deal. She says she wishes it could be bigger and help more people. John Moolenaar says it is irresponsible to spend trillions of dollars we do not have on things we do not need. He says there is already billions of unspent money from the Covid relief package that should be spent on true infrastructure needs. Both are passionate about their positions and the interviews are worth a listen.
Reporting from the front lines: We spoke with Stars and Stripes reporter J.P. Lawrence on his 3 years reporting in Afghanistan including the final terrifying days leading up to the evacuation. He talks about the irony and helplessness of playing cricket in the streets while being targeted by enemy forces. He also shares incredible about the people and places in Afghanistan. J.P. served in the military and has a fascinating perspective.
Is coffee caught up in the supply chan crisis: We spoke with Mike McFall Cofounder of Biggby Coffee about supply chain issues. He says this is by far the most challenging time in his three decades in the business. They have a good supply of beans right now at Biggby but are struggling with things like plastic and styrofoam. Mike tells the tale of working through labor shortages and rising inflation to continue to make sure you have your daily cup of coffee. Did you know he does a podcast where you can ask him anything and he will give you an honest answer. Not many CEO’s do that.
Reparations is on the ballot in Detroit: We spoke with Todd Perkins about reparations in Detroit. There are two proposals being voted on in Detroit and Todd wants people to vote yes on both. When the interview started I thought we were just speaking about proposal R but quickly learned he wanted to discuss proposal S. I franticly tried to move the conversation that way but it was a little scary doing so on the fly. See if you can notice it in the interview.
Governors ready for some football: This weekend Michigan State took on the university of Michigan in a battle of the unbeaten. Both teams were ranked in the top 10 and playing for bragging rights. For fun we interviewed former Governors Rick Snyder who is an M alum and James Blanchard who is an MSU alum. Both talked about going to the big game as students and as Governors and what the rivalry means to them. It was great fun and I appreciate them coming on the show. (MSU won the game in an epic battle)
Thanks for checking out the newsletter. I am excited about this weeks upcoming interviews on WJR 760AM. If you know someone we should be interviewing on the show let me know.
